Charting the television series from William Hartnell to just before the 2004 relaunch this concise encyclopedia of all things Doctor Who is a good reference to the series. Each episode is listed in detail and there are some extras such as series firsts, important developments. What it lacks is more analysis of the stories, more behind the scenes information and some details of Who at the time. Newspaper stories about the actors and various controversies that existed at the time would have added more depth. The sex in the Tardis debates that occurred when Leela became a companion and then when Tom Baker married Lala Ward, the controversy around the firing of Colin Baker and the end of the series under McCoy. Why did certain actors decide to leave the show? What did they do later?

On the whole a great reference but it could have been so much more. ( )
