It's not really a book, but a short story in Guardian (can be found here). I think I just love everything he does... So far anyway. Really enjoyed this, especially since locked room mysteries (by John Dickson Carr/Carter Dickson) used to be my favorite detectives. I don't read detective stories much anymore, I kind of overdosed myself on Agatha Christie and John Dickson Carr/Carter Dickson when I was around 10-12. But I definitely recognize the tropes! ( )

So funny. Fforde is one of the few authors that can make me literally laugh out loud. This short story was pretty ridiculous but in the most wonderful, laugh-worthy way. A bit heavier handed than his full length stuff, but hey, it's a short story, you've gotta cram everything in! ( )
