Best Historical Fiction (405) Unread books (255) » 7 more No current Talk conversations about this book. Such a great concept, and such poor execution. The characters of Laurence and Temeraire don't make any sense and aren't believable, and the writing style is cringe worthy. ( )These books read like a mingling of Patrick O'Brien and Anne MacCaffrey. Well imagined fantasy and meticulously researched history focusing on the Napoleonic Wars. Excellent stuff! The feral dragons and Iskeirka were welcome additions to the series. It's good. Couldn't put it down. I'd go into more detail, but I'm writing this review at 5am after having spent most of the night reading, so I'm not at my most eloquent. The 3rd book in the Temeraire series picks up where the last book left off. The book focuses on the trek to Istanbul and then back to the war. The dynamic between Temeraire and Laurence is heart warming and there is plenty of growth for the dragon. This series continues to shine as an entertaining look at world history but with dragons.
