Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, faces a threat unlike any other in this thrilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series. I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman. My only "superpowers" are that I turn into a thirty-five pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I'm going to need them. Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill--until she locked her doors against them. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived. Now one of those prisoners has escaped. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. But if it bites you, it controls you. It lives for chaos and destruction. It can make you do anything--even kill the person you love the most. Now it is here, in the Tri-Cities. In my territory. It won't, can't, remain. Not if I have anything to say about it.… (more)

OMG....just when you think Mercy has enough on her plate....

Something is wrong with Adam and their mating bond.

Christy, Adam's ex-wife is back to causing trouble.

We have rogue werewolves in the area trying to take over.

AND Underhill has put a doorway in the corner of their backyard.....and something may have escaped from there. It's bite and smoke can be deadly.

Just another day in Mercy's world but it's never boring.

I think I still enjoy this series after so much time because the characters grow, change, and sometimes leave us for a short time. I mean the basic personalities are always the same but they learn empathy and affection....some become harder because of events. But the stories always grab you and won't let you go. In Mercy's world the outrageous is totally believable.

The surprise in this one....Wulfe. Trust me, he'll never be the same....especially after his last scene. ( )

Listened to audio narrated well by Lorelei King.

Mercedes, Adam, the Pack and her allies have survived the witches attack but things are still not quite right. Adam has locked down their bond and is keeping secrets and not acting like himself and Mercy is determined to figure things out.

Underhill has created a door on their property and a nasty creature has escaped in the form of a psycho bunny. A rival pack is trying to take over their territory, creepy vampire Wulfe is stalking Mercy and Adam's ex-wife is still up to her annoying games.

This book feels like a day in the life of Mercy and her friends, with pack issues, family issues and murders to solve involving magic. Mercy is in the center of it all with her particular brand of chaos always ruining the bad guys plans and putting her own twist on solving the various problems she and the pack face.

There's action and mysteries, as well as pack squabbles and relationship issues all in one book, a little something for everyone. I enjoyed this book but with all that is going on in the book, a lot is left unresolved. There's a sense of this very big build up that isn't finished by the end of the book, leaving me feeling like it wasn't complete. Don't get me wrong several things are resolved but several other lines are left open ended leaving a reader to feel like the book was just getting started.

Yay for Mercy!

I'm always down for a new Mercy book, and this one was definitely worth the wait.

I felt so sorry for Adam and everything he was going through because of things that had happened in other books. I hated that it tore him up so much and nearly destroyed the bond between him and Mercy.

I love how strong, stubborn, and determined Mercy was. She wasn't going to let anything stop her, no matter what.

Finally got this from the library! Worth the wait!

Patricia Briggs does it again. I love this series. I'm not going to spoil, but I can see the direction this is probably going, and as much as I love this series, this book did have a good ending. It probably could end here. I'd love to see books on some of the others! Of course, we don't know what's going on with Wulfe, so I suppose we'll have to buckle down and read some more of Mercy. Darn.
