Each captures the essential River so well that you are not conscious of any shift and you can easily picture the inimitable Alex Kingston strutting her stuff through these adventures. All are written by authors who have experience writing in the Doctor Who world. The first story was the weakest, mainly because it felt more like a children's story than anything else. I think if you are a fan of Doctor Who, and especially River, you will enjoy this book. It is a quick and easy read, and it is fun to see what River does when she is not running around with the Doctor. I also liked Jenny Colgan's "Picnic at Asgard", which fills in that particular gap in continuity, and "River of Time" by Andrew Lane which actually has River functioning as an archaeologist.
